From the past to the present. In Dublin I stayed one night at a hostel, but the rest of the time I was with a great bunch of guys who had an apartment there. It was a three-bedroom place as I recall, but there were something like six people living in it. Among the Irish gaming community, people seem to move between Cork and Dublin every couple years, whenever they get sick of one place or the other. This apartment was sort of the staging ground for Irish gamers from Cork who were moving to Dublin and looking for a place to live, so there were always a few extra people around who hadn't found a flat yet. They gave me a mattress on the floor of the living room, where someone else was already sleeping. We had a great time. Lots of drinking, games, and wrestling shows. This picture sort of sums up the flat: tons of boxed games in and on a closet, an original Gauntlet video game that sort of worked, a Star Wars poster, and a dual-turntable DJ set-up on the table because the guys were mad for club music and one of them was a professional DJ. Dotc, Morgan, and Brian were sort of my main hosts in Dublin; I can't keep the names of the others there straight I fear. Morgan's web page has photos of the crew and many of the other people I met at WarpCon.
