John Scott Tynes: Transubstantiating the aether since 1995

Interesting little adventure game based on H.P. Lovecraft’s “The Outsider”. It was made in just a few days for a game jam and it’s an old-school point-and-click adventure, but I liked it okay. And yet — did there have to be crates?

I realize there are people who think it’s cool to make their consumer electronics look like props from a high school production of Dante’s Inferno. But man, I am not one of those people.

A $90 Gears of War Make-Over For Your Xbox 360

Is your Xbox 360 white? Black? Green? Does it have a "bleed-out" finish? Will it be able to light up when (if?) you're Gears of War 3? Your Xbox 360 probably doesn't have an "infected omen" on its side that lights up in four different ways.

I’m really glad to see Kotaku giving this game some coverage. Zombie Highway is my favorite iOS game and has been since it came out last year. It controls beautifully and is addictively replayable. If you have an iOS device, spend the buck and try this outstanding game.

Zombie Highway Makes you a Highway Superstar

Originally released on the iPhone and iPod Touch in 2010, the fact Zombie Highway just got updated with a native iPad version means it's definitely worth another look. You can ignore the "zombie" part in the title;

I’ve been running an R&D project exploring selection mechanisms for Kinect with kids. It’s been really challenging. This morning our latest rough prototype — buggy, confusing, and heavy-handed — nonetheless worked. The kids got it. I think we might get somewhere with this crazy thing after all.

I played CoD4: MW tonight for the first time. So far it’s indistinguishable from CoD2 & CoD3 except for the art. Mostly Harmless.

Sony Online sells an all-access pass to their MMOs and they announced today that they’re dropping the price to $19.95 a month to play all their games. It’s a mixed bag of titles but that gets you DC Universe, the Everquests, and of course my beloved Pirates of the Burning Sea. If you want to dive into a bunch of MMOs, there’s no better value.

This is the final installment in Massively’s journey through my MMO Pirates of the Burning Sea. It’s a very nice wrapup that highlights the strengths of the experience: a real economy with regional trade, a dynamic world with territory that changes hands regularly, player town governance with real powers and responsibilities, and very deep and rewarding naval combat. I still think Pirates is a real triumph of advance

I’m sure someone is very proud of this trailer but all I could think was, are we never going to get past the aesthetic established by the movie Seven? The opening credits for that film had the same impact on horror/thrillers that H.R. Giger and Blade Runner each had on horror/SF.
