Matt Forbeck’s new novel Carpathia is out today as an ebook and I’m jazzed to read it. Vampires hunting the survivors of the Titanic as they steam away from the disaster? Yes, please.

The Penny Arcade guys have launched their own gaming news site, with a high-signal/low-noise philosophy and they hired a very talented journalist, Ben Kuchera, to run it. In this article Kuchera breaks down one minute of footage from a competitive Street Fighter tournament in a way any sports fan can relate to. The video clip is amazing and the dissection even moreso. I’m not a fighting-game fan but I loved this article.

The match between Daigo Umehara and Justin Wong in the 2004 EVO Tournament is a legendary moment in fighting game history. But do you understand why it's so exciting? Capcom's Seth Killian explains why the "Beast is Unleashed" video represents a moment of true mastery in fighting games. Read More

State legislator Leland Yee’s ludicrous campaign to criminalize the sale of violent videogames ultimately cost Californians $1.8 million as the state opted to defend the law all the way to the U.S. Supreme Court, which made the obvious ruling that free speech is free speech and fuck you, California. I followed this story from the very start, was thrilled by the Supreme Court’s decision, and can now only point and laugh at Yee, Governer Schwarzenegger, and Governor Brown for making fools of themselves.

Failed video-game law cost California $2 million

Tim Schafer wants to make a new point-and-click adventure game and he’s financing it entirely through Kickstarter. This isn’t just great news; it’s a chance to seize the industry by the tight and curlies and flip it on its head. Join in!

Fascinating. These guys rigged a Kinect to a vibration belt. As you walk, Kinect detects approaching obstacles and triggers the correct portion of the vibration belt’s arc, so you know the obstacle is the middle left and so on.

Indian engineers modify Microsoft's Kinect to help the blind walk with confidence

viSparsh, a belt-based sensor system (sparsh means touch in Hindi) created by a young team of engineers, could herald a revolutionary change for 25-year-old Wasim, and millions of others who are blind.

I’m very pleased and impressed to see that my friends at Spry Fox have filed a Federal lawsuit against 6waves LOLapps for blatantly ripping off their game Triple Town. This is an awful situation and I wish Spry Fox the best in shutting down this ripoff.

Standing up for ourselves
